Floor Care Tips

Hardwood Flooring Tips

  • Dust mop, vacuum regularly with soft bristle head
  • Never use wax, silicone-based polish, oils soaps, solvents or pine based cleaners
  • Damp-sponge mop, with minimal amount of water
  • Clean floors periodically with a professional wood floor cleaner
  • Allow finish to cure 3 weeks. Before using area rugs.
  • Use protective felt floor pads on chair legs and furniture.
  • Periodic buff & coat approx. 3-7 years
  • Buff & recoat from .98 cents per square foot.
  • Use a humidifier throughout the winter months to keep wood movement and shrinkage to a minimum.

Carpet Care Tips

  • Prevention is better than cure. So make sure that you stop dirt before it gets inside. Placing a mat preferably outside your front door helps to keep large proportion of dirt outside.
  • Your vacuum cleaner is your best ally in keeping your carpet dirt free. It should be of high quality. If you are building a new house then consider a ducted vacuum system. They are super-efficient and are much more powerful than ordinary vacuums and well worth the cost.
  • Always remember to clean up carpet spills immediately. Otherwise, they may gradually become permanent.
  • Have your carpet cleaned professionally once a year. Although vacuuming does a good job, it can't kill bugs that cause allergies. A thorough deep steam clean done properly will rejuvenate your carpet and extend its life.

Tile Floor Tips

  • Ceramic tile is one the easiest types of floors to clean and when properly cared for will maintain their shiny, new appearance for years to come. To clean your tile you don't need anything fancy - just water and a floor cleaning product. Vacuum the floor first then use a sponge or mop to apply the cleaner and water mixture. Rinse off with water and let dry.
  • Other than that your ceramic tile does not need much care. You will have to be careful about dropping heavy objects on it particularly in the kitchen where heavy pots can slip and fall. If your tile does become cracked or chipped it will be very difficult to replace it without having to dig up the rest of the floor so tread carefully on your new ceramic tile floor.
